Build your own retreat
Take a look at what is on offer and we can come up with a plan for your personal retreat
The Half Door Writers Centre is in a very rural location, overlooking Lough Derg. A car is essential here as we are a long way from local shops and services and there is not always someone on the property to drive you.
RETREAT SPACE WITH ACCOMMODATION
Please note – there is no longer a minimum stay, but if you are to stay less than 3 days there is a one off surcharge of €15
The retreat centre is a space fundamentally for one or two people to come and concentrate on their writing for whatever period of time they need.
Please note – The Half Door Writers Retreat space is self-catering only.
You will have sole use of a small but fully fitted kitchenette, with fridge, full cooker, microwave. There is a small freezer space within the fridge.
You have a sitting room with a writer’s desk, a kitchenette, a private bathroom and your own bedroom.
The cottage offers two bedrooms. The larger, downstairs bedroom has a double bed. The upstairs room has two single beds. Please note that the upstairs bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs and is not suitable for anyone who is infirm in any way.
Sole occupancy of the retreat space in either of the bedrooms is €70 per night. The downstairs room will be prepared for you unless you state otherwise.
For a second person sharing either room, there is a surcharge of €25 per night.
For two people to come to stay and have a bedroom each, the total cost is €125 per night.
For four people to come to stay – two people in each room, the total cost is €175

For people visiting or staying at the Half Door, I offer brainstorming sessions on your Work-In-Progress. Writers often find this useful to discuss their current work, to look at specific writing challenges or to work through writer’s blocks with the help of certain exercises and writing prompts.
