Build your own retreat

Take a look at what is on offer and we can come up with a plan for your personal retreat

The Half Door Writers Centre is in a very rural location, overlooking Lough Derg. A car is essential here as we are a long way from local shops and services and there is not always someone on the property to drive you.

Updated Pricing Structure for The Half Door Writers’ Retreat

Understanding the financial challenges many writers face in securing retreat spaces to foster their creative endeavours, I am pleased to announce a revised pricing system at The Half Door. With a commitment to accessibility, I am implementing a sliding scale along with a Pay it Forward option, relying on the integrity of our patrons to select a rate that aligns with their means.

Full Pricing for Self-Catering at The Half Door:

The charming cottage features two bedrooms, each furnished with a comfortable double bed. Please note that the upstairs bedroom is accessible only when booking both bedrooms and involves a steep flight of stairs, making it unsuitable for those with mobility concerns.

Sole occupancy of the cottage: €70 per night.

For dual occupancy with individual bedrooms: €140 per night.

Surcharge for a second person sharing either room: €25 per night.

Discounts & Pay it Forward Opportunities:

Four-person occupancy (two people per room): Total cost €170.

Welfare Payment or Low-Income Support: Sole occupancy discounted to €59.50 per night.

Pay it Forward: Embrace the ethos of Pay it Forward by contributing an extra payment toward a stay for a writer with limited financial resources. Your generosity will be reserved in a dedicated account to subsidise such visits.

Please note: A nominal once-off charge of €15 applies to stays under three nights for all guests.

Your contributions and consideration are instrumental in fostering a nurturing environment for writers from diverse backgrounds. Thank you for your support of The Half Door Writers’ Retreat.

For people visiting or staying at the Half Door, I offer brainstorming sessions on your Work-In-Progress. Writers often find this useful to discuss their current work, to look at specific writing challenges or to work through writer’s blocks with the help of certain exercises and writing prompts.
