Like many women, Pippa has had to fulfil a range of other responsibilities in life before she allowed herself the space and time to focus on her writing. Now that she has done this, her productivity and the quality of her work is gathering superb momentum.
In addition to her achievements and potential as a writer, Pippa is also an enormously generous and perceptive reader of other people’s work. In workshop settings, I have seen her provide feedback sensitively and honestly, providing other writers with that much-needed delicate blend of challenge and encouragement. As part of the MA, and in collaboration with an Arts Council Funded project (Writepace - Walls of Limerick) which I lead, Pippa also hosted and facilitated online workshops for underrepresented and marginalised writers in the community. I know first hand of the transformative effect that her empathetic teaching had on the participants of those workshops.
In summary, Pippa Slattery is an accomplished writer of great potential. She is self-aware, articulate, dedicated and thoughtful both in the way she approaches her creative work and the way she interacts with other creatives. As a creative artist, a storyteller and a writer, she deserves all the support she can get. As her teacher, it’s been a real joy to have been part of her creative journey. I wish her every success.
